Dart tournaments are springing up like mushrooms. Not only is professional darts growing without any visible end, but there are also more and more opportunities for amateurs to compete .

On the one hand, there is the opportunity to register for dart tournaments in the official structures, and on the other hand, more and more clubs are also organizing their own dart tournaments .

Even for private hobby players, this is an opportunity to compete with others. However, dart tournament plans regularly cause some organizers to despair. For this reason, in this blog post we give valuable tips on what you should consider when organizing a darts tournament .

Tip 1: Dart tournament schedules – Exit in round one does not mean elimination in the tournament

The organizer should be aware in advance that a darts tournament schedule does not have much to do with a tournament schedule for other sports. There are some special features that need to be taken into account.

First of all, let's go into a basic detail in a normal darts tournament schedule. Darts is usually played permanently in the knockout system. Anyone who gets kicked out gets a second chance .

So in a darts tournament tree there is a winning and a losing side . Even on the losing side, a player can still win the entire tournament at the end of the day.

An example: Two good players meet in the 1st round. The loser then plays in the side of the tournament tree into which all losers fall. If you lose again on this side, the tournament is finally over . However, whoever wins everything will ultimately advance to the point where they can even make it to the finals of the entire tournament .

Tip 2: What types of tournaments are there?

When it comes to tournament formats, there are usually two options . The players either compete against each other in singles or in doubles . It is not uncommon for doubles tournaments to take place immediately or one day before the singles tournament in order to get a good introduction.

In terms of organization, it makes sense for people who are organizing a darts tournament for the first time to only organize an individual tournament.

Tip 3: clearly defined upper limit of participants for dart tournament plans

In order to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, it makes sense to set an upper limit on participants. Common upper limits in a darts tournament are, for example , 16, 32 or 64 .

But why exactly these numbers? These numbers are the best way to downplay dart tournament schedules.

If only 29 out of 32 players ultimately register, there is also an opportunity to react accordingly. In this case, 13 games will be played and three byes will be awarded . Because: with a number of participants of 32, 16 players would have to make it to the next round in 16 games.

But if there are only 29 participants available, you draw 13 games and three players receive a bye for the next round. This means the basic process is not disrupted.

Tip 4: Which game mode makes the most sense?

At this point we will stick with a very classic variant, which is also favored by many organizers for official tournaments. As a rule, a best of 3 legs, 501 , double out is played.

At least that is the requirement for the first rounds of the tournament, in which many players are still involved. The dart tournament administration can of course also specify in advance that the semi-finals will be held in the best of 5 and the final, for example, in the best of 7 .

Tip 5: How many dartboards are necessary?

When organizing a darts tournament, it is extremely important that the players do not have to wait too long between their games. For this reason, it is advisable to play on at least two boards if there are 16 participants .

If there are 32 people, four boards should be available, while if there are 64 participants , 6 dartboards are essential.

The reason for this is simple: the time required to hold such a dart tournament is enormous. It is not uncommon for tournaments to last from the morning until late in the evening. The number of boards should definitely be ensured if it is clear that the number of participants is well over 16.

Tip 6: How long does a dart tournament usually last?

With a darts tournament planner you can roughly estimate how long a tournament will last. Once the number of players has been determined, you can roughly calculate when the tournament will probably end.

  • With 16 players, a tournament on two targets can be completed in about 3 hours .
  • With 32 players, you should plan at least 5 hours even with four boards due to the higher organizational effort. And even with that, you're still making good time.
  • Because as soon as the number of participants is between 32 and 64 , you can assume that a tournament that starts around 12 noon will last until around 7 p.m. - if not a little longer. Ultimately, this also depends on the number of boards .

Tip 7: The amount of the entry and prize money

The amount of the entry and prize money should also be fair . An entry fee of between 5 and 7 euros is mandatory. As a rule, the prize money is distributed at the end at a ratio of 50:30:20 to the first three places in the ranking.

Infobox: It is often the case that the entire entry fee is spent - unless the organizer pays rent for the event room.

Tip 8: Set additional prices as an incentive

To provide an additional incentive, a few special prizes are also awarded at dart tournaments. For example, the person with the most high scores , the highest finish or the best lady in the tournament receives a special prize.

Tip 9: Software and tips for dart tournament plans

Of course, it makes little sense to write a darts tournament planner by hand. For this reason, there are various ways to do this electronically .

In our e- book , for example, you will find 8 different dart tournament planners so you can organize your next tournament quickly and easily.

A second option is the Dartuoso software , which you can download free of charge from the Internet.

Tip 10: What else needs to be taken into account when managing dart tournaments

If you want to organize a darts tournament yourself, you should at least keep a few things in mind:

  • Physical well-being should be taken care of
  • There should be enough space for spectators and players in the room
  • Clear regulations on smoking are also essential to avoid disputes
