When it comes to steel darts, the “ 501 Double Out ” mode is the best known. The newcomers are introduced to the game simply through the many major PDC tournaments. There are many other darts games that can be played on the dartboard. We would like to introduce you to some of them. Ultimately, some of them are a good alternative to simply throwing down 501 points in daily training. At the end of the article we have provided you with a link where you can find all the templates including instructions for the following darts games so you can try them out directly at home.
Darts Games – Mini Game 1: Cricket
Cricket is the mini-game of the darts games that is most often encountered by hobby players alongside the typical downplaying of points. The only decisive factors here are the fields from 15 up to the bullseye . The aim is to collect as many points as possible in order to end the game as the winner. Each hit in a single segment scores one point, a hit in a double counts as double, while a hit in a triple counts as triple.
However, before you score you have to hit the respective number, for example 20, three times. Only after the third hit does the next hit in the 20 count as 20 points. Now you can score on the 20 until your opponent has also hit the 20 three times. As soon as both players hit the field three times, it is considered “closed ” and you can no longer score on the segment. Now you work your way through the other fields and try to collect as many points as possible from the relevant fields.
Important: There is no prescribed order, every hit is recorded!
How to win the game
The game is only over when the player with the highest score hits all fields from 15 to the bullseye three times. Cricket is ultimately about imposing your own game on your opponent. If player 1 throws 20 4 times with the first arrows, he gets his first 20 points with the fourth hit. It is tactically clever for player 2 not to follow on the 20, but to build up pressure on the 19.
If player 2 hits 19 5 times with three darts (for example, the single field twice and the triple once), he will be credited with 38 points. Even a player who doesn't like 20 at all can win the game with the right tactics. Ultimately, it is important that you build up pressure through your own strong fields.
Extension : The so-called “Tac Tics” are becoming more and more common. In this game you only expand normal cricket to include the fields from 10 to 14.
Mini-game 2: Halving
Halving is also about having the most points at the end of the dart games. The players have to hit a certain segment in a given order in order to be credited with the respective points . If a player does not hit this field, his previous score is halved. For example, the order could look like this:
First, the players score on all segments of the 20. Then on the 19. In the third round, any triple on the board must be caught, otherwise the player's score is halved. While the large numbers are often not a hurdle, over the course of the game the requirements follow to hit a double , a red or a green field. These throws in particular often decide whether you win or lose. The fall height for players with a lot of points is of course also extremely high if the score is halved if they fail
Minigame 3: Double practice with four wins
Darts games next: With the mini-game “ Four in a row ” you train your skills on the double fields. The aim of this game is to have 4 double fields in a row as quickly as possible. The graphic looks like this:
Ways to claim four fields are vertical, horizontal or diagonal. Depending on how you play it, you can change the rules as you wish. Only the single bull counts in this game. Otherwise, all other fields indicate a respective double. However, there is a special rule . The single bull , which is shown in the corners, may only be thrown if another double field in this row or column has already been hit . The double bull in the middle can be targeted at any time. If at the end no player manages to claim four fields next to each other, one below the other or diagonally, the player who first conquers 13 of the 25 fields wins.
Mini-game 4: Siege
Next comes the most exciting of the 5 darts games. The game “ Siege ” is about conquering as many cities as possible and besieging them, so to speak. With three darts the player gets the chance to hit three predetermined fields. If he succeeds, he can call this city his own. If he doesn't succeed, the next player has the chance to conquer this city. For example, it is possible to play 20 cities with three fields each, as there are 60 different fields on the dartboard in the respective segments. An example for visualization:

Mini-game 5: Tricks on the dartboard
A particularly varied game is the trick on the dartboard. The rules of the game are ultimately like the well-known trick . Only the board looks a little different:

While you count the points normally up to the total of 1 , now a short explanation of the special fields from the pair onwards. A pair is achieved with two hits in one field or a double hit . 3 of a kind is achieved with 3 hits in a segment, e.g. 1 hit each in the single field and double field. Up to the streets, the further procedure is self-explanatory. The small street is possible with three arrows between 1-10 . The big street, however, between 11-20 . With the Kniffel, you now logically have to score five hits with three arrows in one segment. Then you get 100 points . So you don't necessarily score over 20.
